Shield for police sportsman

Detective W. Nicholl, of Christchurch (centre), holding the shield presented to him yesterday as the top police sportsman in New Zealand for 1970. Detective Nicholl represented New Zealand as a hammer thrower at the Commonwealth Games in Edinburgh this year. With him are Superintendent C. L. Scanlan (left), who

will retire on November 23, and Chief Superintendent G. Tait, officer in charge of the Christchurch police district, who presented the trophy to Detective Nicholl. The trophy was presented at the last pay parade which Superintendent Scanlan and Constable H. Plumridge, of Burnham, will attend before they retire.
