TOP.—Circus elephants receive a blessing. The Rev. J. F. B. Keith, vicar of St Peter’s Church, Upper Riccarton, blessing circus elephants during an open-air service in the churchyard yesterday afternoon. The occasion was the feast of St Francis of Assisi, the patron saint of animals. BOTTOM.—Children bring their pets to church. A scene in St Peter’s churchyard before the start of the service organised at the invitation of the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. The vicar is seen moving among young people and their pets, which were blessed.
