(N.Z. Press Association) SYDNEY, Sept. 20. New Zealand timber sales I in Australia stand to gain as a - result of the announcement of freight rate increases from the West Coast of North America to Australia and New Zealand. The boost in rates should make some North American timber more expensive to buy in Australia. i This will help the competitive position of New Zealand exports which sell against United States and Canadian West Coast timber. The New Zealand Trade Commissioner in Sydney (Mr |R. E. Parrott) said the (higher rates would help an j advantage New Zealand had ;on the Australian market by I its very nearness. “In recent months the advantage has been whittled away by price reductions in North American timber, reductions caused by the recession in the United States,” he said.
