TENNIS UPSET

(N.Z. Press Assn—Copyright) CHARLOTTE. In what may be the biggest tennis upset of the year, the 15-year-old American, Miss Chris Evert, on Saturday defeated Mrs M. Court (Australia) In the Carolina tennis tournament Associated Press reported. Miss Evert, who, on Friday, had beaten France’s top-ranked women’s player, Miss F. Durr, eliminated Mrs Court, 7-6, 7-6, to reach the final. The Australian won the United States open last week, completing the grand slam in tennis with her victories in the Australian, French and Wimbledon championships. Miss Evert took advantage of 14 double faults and erratic play by the world’s top-ranked woman player, and consistently used her two-handed backhand to pass Mrs Court at the net.
