* S ese Slx B L ris llave been selected as finalists in the Secretary Bird” competition being run by “The Press in conjunction with the Christchurch season of the comedy hit, “The Secretary Bird.”
On Sunday evening, the star of the play, Patrick Macnee—the debonair John Steed of the “Avengers” —will select the contest winner from these six photographs.
Each of these finalists will receive a Sheaffer presentation pen and pencil set. The winner will receive two tickets to the opening night of “The Secretary Bird,” the use of an Avis rental car for the evening, and an invitation to an after-show function with the cast.
The winner will meet Patrick Macnee on Sunday evening, and her name will be- announced in “The Press” on Monday morning. The six finalists were chosen by Mrs P. Hullett, of “The Press,” and Mr R. S. Scott, the manager of a leading advertising agency. The first criterion in selecting the finalists had been their appearance, Mrs Hullett and Mr Scott said yesterday.
But the task had been particularly difficult, because all the girls were, photogenic, and many were exceedingly photogenic. In the end, they had also to consider such factors as the girls' hobbies, Interests, and technical credentials as “Secretary Birds,” the judges said.
All 94 entrants in the contest have been sent invitations to attend, with an escort, a coffee-hour function at the'Te Kura Lounge, Bealey Avenue, on Tuesday evening. They will be the guests of the Christchurch Jaycees and “The Press.”
