Market drifts down in active trading
The New Zealand sharemarket retreated in active trading yesterday. Speculative stocks made small gains in relatively quiet trading. Australian industrials were noticeably easier.
The undertone of the market was weakened by the number of falls among the leaders, and rises could only be regarded as partial recoveries. New Zealand Petroleum put on 10c to 160 c on the news contained in the annua! report.
A. Harvey, Feltex, and' N.Z. Forest Products gained a few cents each. Falls covered most indus-l trial sectors, but with the exception of New Zealand. Refrigerating and South; British Insurance which lost' 4c each, they were mainly small.
