MEETING IN AMMAN

Peace Plan By P.L.O. (N^Z.P.A.-Reuter—Copyright) CAIRO, Sept. 7. The Arab League council which had been called into emergency session to discuss the critical situation in Amman yesterday appealed to the Jordanian authorities and the Palestinian Commandos to cease armed clashes immediately. The decision was announced after a final two hours and a half meeting of the 12-member council. The urgent session of the council had been requested by the Palestine Liberation Organisation, whose representatives took part in the discussions in Amman, and joined with Jordanian and Arab League representatives in the tripartite committee which drafted the final resolutions.

The council also decided to reconvene—this time under Arab League auspices—a four-nation committee which helped resolve similar Jordanian-Commando clashes in June.

The committee, from Egypt, Libya, Sudan and Algeria, was first set up by a summit of “frontline” countries, which met in Tripoli on June 23.

An Arab League statement said that the four-nation committee would now be joined by a league representative and that it would start work immediately. Its brief would be to study practical measures to resolve the Jordanian - Palestinian differences, and it would work in close touch with the league’s secretariat.
