Junior Match To Ellesmere
Ellesmere scored a deserved. 19-13, win over Canterbury in a representative junior Rugby match at Lancaster Park south on Saturday. Although handling errors were evident in both sides the game moved at a good pace and there were tome entertaining movments.
At half-time Ellesmere led 14-8, and although Canterbury narrowed the gap with a converted try mid-way through the second spell. Ellesmere finished strongly to score again and regain a six-point lead. For Ellesmere, tries were scored by P. Chiplin (2) and R McGlashin. J. Taylor kicked a dropped goal and J. Catherwood and D. Vanstone kicked conversions. Vanstone also kicked a penalty goal. For Canterbury P. Sutherland (2) and I. Whitehead scored tries and D. Robinson kicked two conversions.
