Scientists’ Pay Rises

(N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) MELBOURNE, Sept. 4. The full Bench of the Commonwealth Conciliation and Arbitration Commission today granted pay increases ranging from 1 per cent to 8 per cent to Australia’s top research scientists.

The increases range from 5125, to $3151 for the chiefs of research divisions and bring the top salary available to a scientist to $19,250. The decision applies directly to the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation, the Atomic Energy Commission, and the Supply Department But it will have an effect on future wage fixing in some other areas of the Commonwealth Public Service.
