Helicopter Of Plastic
Richard Schuffenhauer has never held the control stick of an aeroplane, yet he has designed and constructed one. The 52-year-old employee of an automobile plant in Cologne, Germany, calls his portable helicopter Airlift. He hopes that within a few years it will become as popular as the sports plane is today.
The special feature of the machine is its plastic rotor which a German plastics manufacturer had made especially for the amateur constructor. The experts doubted for years that rotor blades could be made out of plastic at all.
Schuffenhauer’s invention resembles a comfortable reclining chair with an upwards extended bicycle handlebar.
The aviation industry has already shown its interest in the handy construction which could be the ideal means of transportation in the future.
