Meditations On Today’s Living
(Reviewed by J.0.R.)
Going It With God, and Other Contemporary Prayers and Meditations. By lan Shevill. •A. H. and A. W. Reed. 94 pp.
The title of this work is somewhat off-putting to those inclined to be conservative in religion, but the reading of the contents culls rich orthodox food for the souls of those who live within the Christian faith. Bishop Shevill has concentrated on four concerns: Today’s living. Today’s problems, Today’s faith, and Festivals of today. Thus it is that his meditations range from the affairs of the astronauts to those of student riots and to the pleasantries of relaxation on the beach, as his mind is exercised by the problems associated with hunger, money, health, employment, and communication. It is to be expected that the Bishop tells of his hopes and fears before God and men, in the light of his experiences within the Christian Church.
The work is valuable because it can be understood by all, both young and old. The author, although he is aware of new forms of thinking, is not overcome by all he fears and is able to penetrate through much of the superficial to what is real and to speak of it
