Vacancy No. 22 i THE Civil Aviation Division, Ministry of Transport, has vacancies for youths, who will be not more than 18$ years of age at the end of 1970, for career training on work associated with the installation and maintenance of the wide range of ground telecommunications equipment necessary for the safe and efficient running of modern air transport. Entry io Form VI with at least 50 per cent in Mathematics is essential. University Entrance is preferred. Cadets receive practical training at the Division’s workshops in Wellington, together with daytime tuition at a Technical Institute. Cadets are required to study for the Radio Technicians Certificate, together with the Supplementary Certificate in Radio, and Radar and Telegraphy to Civil Aviation standards. Staff are encouraged to study for the New Zealand Certificate in Engineering (Telecommunications). The full training period covers five years, of which at least three years are spent at the Wellington workshops, followed by a period in the field gaining experience as a maintenance technician. Cadets are bonded on appointment to remain in the Public Service for a period of three years after completion of the daytime courses at the Technical Institute. Applicants must not be colour blind.
