College Field Days
Lincoln College will hold two field days this year. The college field day will be held on Thursday, November 26, and a special field day at Ashley Dene, the college’s light land farm, will be held on Thursday, October 15. The college’s information officer, Mr D. H. Crabb, said that the Ashley Dene field day would be of particular interest to light land farmers. Last year’s pattern of lectures and discussions
on the farm would be repeated. The college field day will cater for a wider range of interests. In the morning tours of the mixed cropping farm and the horticulture research and field trials area will be offered. Irrigation for intensive crop production will be a major topic on the mixed cropping farm tour and process crop vegetable production will be discussed during the horticulture tour. Another tour will look at field trials on heavy land. It.is planned to include in this, lectures and discussions on fertilisers and mineral losses on heavy lands, control of barley grass and fodder beet production. In the afternoon a variety of subjects will be discussed at static points near the college’s main buildings. Topics discussed will cover the fields of agriculture and horticulture, teaching and research. Visitors will be encouraged to move round during the afternoon to discuss topics of their choice. It is also planned to arrange tours of the college facilities.
