Public Speaking Contest

(N.Z. Press Association) DUNEDIN, Sept. 3. ' A Wairarapa College pupil, J.I Laurenson (Wellington), won the Anthony Eden New Zealand! public speaking contest in Dun-1 edin last evening. Second place in the contest,! organised by the Royal Overseas League, was won by C. Lawrence (Palmerston North Boys’ High School), and third: place by Louise Waaka (Roto-; rua Girls’ High School). The judges were Messrs J. B. Robertson and M. Jamieson, and; Dr Margaret Dalziel, all of Dun-! edin. Among the speakers taking! part in the contest were R. I Webb (Middleton Grange) School, Christchurch), Helen i Breen (St Thomas’s Girls’' School. Oamaru), M. R. H. Webbj (Nelson College). and K. Thompson (St Patrick’s High l School. South Canterbury).
