REPLY BY MINISTER
Questions On 12-Mile Limit (NJ. Press Association) WELLINGTON, Sept. 2. The present procedures for policing New Zealand’s 12mile fishing limit are sufficient, provided that any accurate sightings are reported promptly, the Minister of Marine and Fisheries, Mr McCready, told Parliament today. Replying to a question from Mrs E. E. McMillan (Lab., Dunedin North) he said that allegations for foreign boats fishing at night inside the limit had not been properly substantiated. Asked by Mr R. P. B. Drayton (Lab., St Albans) whether New Zealand had sufficient fisheries-patrol vessels, Mr McCready pointed out that even the United States could not patrol its limits properly. “If we could, we would have more ships than fish,” he said. Mr McCready said that he received weekly reports and that very rarely were there; any sightings. '
