LAST FOUR TEAMS
Basketball Semi-Finals (N.Z. Press Association) INVERCARGILL. Auckland, Palmerston North. Otago, and Nelson have reached the semi-finals of the national men’s indoor basketball tournament at Surrey Park. In the feature match yesterday, Otago and Wellington played a fast, open game, Otago winning 87-81. The scoring went point for point until the last three minutes, when Wellington lost control and Otago drew away. Nelson was hard-pressed to hold off a strong attack by Combined Services, winning 78-73, and Auckland assured itself of a place in the final when it beat Southland, 78-56. Canterbury had no difficulty beating North Queensland. 117-56, Palmerston North scored an easy win, 108-66, over Marlborough, Combined Services beat Hawke’s Bay, 69-50, and Auckland beat North Queensland, 81-67. Final placings were:— Section One.—Auckland 1. Palmerston North 2, Canterbury 3. Southland 4. North Queensland 5, Marlborough 6. Section Two.—Otago 1. Nelson 2, Wellington 3, Combined Services 4. Hawke’s Bay 5.
