ARREST OF PAINTER
Possession Of Cannabis (N.Z.P.A.-Reuter —Copyright) LONDON, Sept. 3. Francis Bacon, one of Britain’s leading contemporary painters, was arrested at his London home yesterday on a charge of possessing narcotics. , Bacon, aged 60, was taken to a police station by detectives and charged with possession of the drug cannabis. He is due to appear in court today. Bacon became recognised in the 19405, with his grotesque visions of humanity—usually solitary figures amidst a torrent of vivid colourful brush strokes. In 1966 he was awarded the Rubens Prize. The following year he won the Prize of the Carnegie Institute.
