Devante Shows Promise

"The Press’' Special Service HASTINGS. The promising filly Devante. which is engaged in the Sewell; Handicap at Wanganui on Saturday, impressed in training at Hastings on Tuesday morning when she galloped boldly over five furlongs. Carlos, which will contest the Spring Hack Handicap, was also responsible for a good work-out over five furlongs. Golden Gurkha, which could be a threat in the Pouawa Handicap at Gisborne, was another to work well. Fair Cindy worked boldly on the plough out was too early to be timed. She is in the Bushmere Handicap at Gisborne, and could be dangerous. Golden Gurkha (L. Carston). which is fit for the Gisborne meeting, covered six furlongs in Imin 19 4-ssec. the last three in 41 4-ssec. Pretty Cockie went six furlongs in Imin 21 3-ssec. the last three in 39 4-asec. Nullarbor ran three in 41 4-ssec.

Grande and Carlos covered five furlongs in Imin 3 3-ssec. the last three in 38 3-ssec. This was good work and though Carlos has been disappointing, he has freshened and might be capable of a bold race in the Spring Handicap at Wanganui. Devante and Lilac Fair went five furlongs in Imin 3sec, the last three in 38sec. Devante conceded her rival a start and worked very well. She could be dangerous in the sprint at Wanganui.
