IMPORTANCE OF PEACE

Nixon Replies To Kosygin

(N.Z.P.A.-Reuter—Copyright) WASHINGTON, Aug. 31. . President Nixon has told the Soviet Union Prime Minister (Mr Alexei Kosygin), in a letter released by the White House lately, that they share an obligation to work at all times to strengthen world peace. Replying to a letter from Mr Kosygin, Mr Nixon said that he welcomed the Russian leader’s emphasis on the need to enhance co-operation and understanding between the United States and the Soviet Union. Mr Kosygin wrote to Mr Nixon on the twenty-fifth anniversary of the Potsdam Conference, that established European boundaries after the Second World War. “I agree with you on the importance of seeking mutually acceptance and just solutions to concrete international problems through appropriate methods of negotiations,” Mr Nixon replied. He did not mention in his short letter any specific problem, of the Strategic Arms Limitation Talks now under way between the United States and the Soviet Union.
