Subsidy ‘ln Pipeline’
Although it was disappointing that the University Grants Committee had made no promise of an early subsidy for extensions to Christchurch College it was reassuring that the proposals were “in the pipeline and awaiting action,” the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Canterbury (Professor N. C. Phillips) told Monday’s meeting of the university council. Professor Phillips was com. menting on a letter he received on Monday from the chairman of the Grants Committee (Sir Alan Danks) in answer to a request from the Christchurch College authorities re-applying for approval in principle for a subsidy to permit the college to extend its residential accommodation. The extensions for which a subsidy was applied for in July, 1967 and February, 1968. could mean the provision of two and possibly four residential units to accommodate between 30 and 60 students.
