Cartage Rate Increased

(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, September 1. Road cartage rate increases for rural and town schedules have been announced by the Secretary of Transport (Mr R. J. Polaschek). The rises are for 4.5 per cent in the maximum rate on all rural schedules and 5.5 per cent on all town schedules. They come into effect immediately. The Increases allowed for a new drivers’ award increase of 15c an hour, which came into effect on August 4, a Ministry of Transport spokesman said. Interested parties have until September 17 to appeal against the rise.
