Young Penalty-Takers Have To Beat National Rep.

The former New Zealand and Canterbury goal-keeper, Owen Nuttridge, will be an “Aunt Sally” to three young, accurate marksmen, on his first return to English Park for two years, during the floodlight Rothmans National Soccer League match be-

tween Christchurch United and Mount Wellington tomorrow evening, .

Nuttridge, who since moving to Perth has represented the Western Australia State side 10 times and has been valued in the transfer market at $3OOO will be on the receiving end for the final of the Canterbury coaches’ association pen-alty-taking competition among junior grade footballers The competition has been held all season and from an original entry of 200, three boys have qualified. Now, they will play out the final, before an official referee, during half-time in the United-Mount match, and the goal-keeper they have to beat is Nutt ridge. Six Tries Apiece The three boys are Neville Petrie (Christchurch City) and Peter Schuyt (Shamrock), both 14-year-old, sixth grade boys, and Terence Burgess (Shirley-Nomads), aged 12, of the eighth grade. Each will take six penalties. The prizes are a track suit, given by the coaches’ associations, and gift vouchers from the Canterbury Sports Depot and the Junior F.A. Nuttridge, who switched from left-wing to goal-keeper on the advice of Gwyn Evans, then Christchurch City’s, now United’s coach, and went on to play 16 times for Canterbury and tour South Vietnam and Asia with the New Zealand team, was most enthusiastic about being the boys’ "Aunt Sally." He is on a three weeks’ holiday with his wife, staying with his parents in Christchurch, after recently returning from Kuala Lumpur with the Western Australians side which competed in the annual Merdeka (Independence) tournament. Nuttridge plays for the

Italian-promoted club, Azzurri in Perth, which this season will probably finish second to another Italian club, Tricolore Multi-Nation Xis “However, that does noi mean the players are all, or even mostly Italians," he said yesterday. “Azzurri is a multi-nation team—four Ital fans, three Englishmen, twe Scots, a Dutchman and a Kiwi “I may transfer to Tried ore next season, if the terms are good enough. Azzurri are talking of a transfer fee of $2500-$3OOO, but this could be cut to $BOO if the matter was taken to the F.A.’s appeals board."

Nuttridge has been in mag nificent form in his matches for the State side, and news papers raved over his per formance against the European Cup-Winners’ Cup holder, Manchester City, whom

Western Australia held to a 1-1 draw thanks to Nuttridge’s fine saves. - The State team also had had drawn games recently with 1 F.C. Hersa (West Germany) 1 and F.C. Zurich, and lost nar- ’ rowly to Moscow Dynamos.
