A decision on whether K. J. Tanner or L. D. Adam will be the tighthead prop in the Canterbury scrum for the Ranfurly Shield match against Waikato tomorrow has been delayed until this evening. They were bracketed for the position when the team was announced earlier this week. Last evening, Mr M. J. Dixon, a co-selector said the; matter would be resolved! when the side met tonight for! a team talk. Tanner, who suffered a; slight ankle injury during! Canterbury's North Island! tour will probably be named’ if he is fully fit. Last evening. he moved easily enough when the players held a final training session. Waikato’s Promise It was the intention of the Waikato team to play constructive entertaining Rugby and not “just shield football.” the selector-coach (Mr A. W. Edwards) said yesterday. The team trained for nearly two hours at Lancaster Park yesterday afternoon and will be another run this morning Mr Edwards said all members of the team were fit and “rearing to go.” He would make a decision on the bracketed players for the rightwing and half-back positions tomorrow morning. Two former All Blacks. W. M Birtwistle and M. W. O’Callaghan are vying for the wing
berth, and the half-back will be either J. J. Rogers or D. E. Phillips. Loss Of Flights
The National Airways Corporation in Hamilton has cancelled three charter flights to Christchurch today and one on Saturday because of the civil aviation dispute. Each charter flight was booked for about 40 people, and with bookings on regular flights also cancelled, at least 200 Waikato supporters will have to stay at home.
