LEADERS IMPROVE TONE OF ACTIVE BUT MIXED MARKET
Rises by market leaders, especially N.Z. Forest Products, gave a slightly firmer tone to a sharemarket which had otherwise many more falls than ries. Turnover was considerably higher. The overseas list was about in balance, although B.H.P. lost 25c. *■
Mount Isa, with a gain of 60c to 1920 c, was another outstanding move in this list. New Zealand Insurance and South British were firm, but National Insurance went against the trend, and lost sc. U.E.8., Tasman, Hellaby, Kaiapoi, Feltex and Fletcher made good gains. Breweries were again easy: Dominion lost about 2c on the theoretical ex issue price. Alex Harvey continues, to lose ground and Wattle shares were also easier.
