Culver Pick At Lincoln
The well-performed Ameri-can-bred stallion. Culver Pick, has arrived to do stud duty in Canterbury this spring. He has been secured'by the Lincoln trainer, G. V. Maginness, as a replacement for his own horse, Scotch Abbe, which is unlikely to arrive in New Zealand until late in the breeding season because of shipping delays. Like Scotch Abbe, Culver Pick is a son of Gene Abbe (2min 3-5 sec), the leading living moneywinning sire in the United States at present. Culver Pick was a top race horse and took a record of lmin 59 4-ssec at three years. He was a junior free-for-all winner at that age and his placings included a second to Right Time in the Governor’s Cup International, of $25,000, and a third to Adios Butler and Meadow Al in the $76,582 Little Brown Jug. At four years he gained six wins and eight placings worth $63,365 from 28 starts. Among
the horses he competed against >vere such outstanding performers as Mr Budiong, Hundred Proof, Adios Paul, Right Time. Caduceus, Adios Butler, and Bye Bye Byrd. Among his placings were seconds to Bye Bye Byrd in the 12-furlong Good Time Pace won in 3min 7 2-ssec, with Caduceus in fourth place; and to Adios Butler in the $50,000 Four-year-old Pace at Yonkers Raceway, won in lmin 58 4-ssec. Culver Pick did pot race at six years, but he came back the next two seasons. Culver Pick is out of Miss Winsocki (2min 03sec), by The Widower (lmin 59isec) from Louis Olivier, the dam of nine winners, including Widower Cyrus (lmin 59 l-ssec), by the Dillon Axworthy horse, Martinique.
