Prices for coarse crossbreds, the major offering at yesterday’s Dunedin wool sale, the first of the 1970-71 season, were erratic and eased by 2 ! per cent to 5 per cent, compared with Monday’s Invercargill sale. The small amount of halfbred wool on offer attracted the only animated bidding of the sale, sellng at up to 2|
per cent dearer than at Timaru last week. Finer descriptions of fleece were inclined in buyers’ favour, as were second shear, skirtings and poorer style crutchings. Despite the clip being in sound order after a good growing season, most lots drew only a limited response from the full bench of buyers. Competition was fairly general, with support coming mainly from tile Continent, supported by Japan, the United States and local mills. The official range ot prices was:
