Passport Ban Lifted

(N.Z.P.A.-Reuter—Copyright) ATHENS, August 26. The Greek Government had decided to re-issue passports to all former Prime Ministers. Ministers and members of Parliament whose departure abroad had been banned since the Army seized power in April, 1967, a Government source said. The Army-backed regime has authorised the re-issue of passports to 355 former politicians. Thousands of Greeks were deprived of their passports when the Army seized power three years ago. The Government gave “security reasons” for the measure. But in April this year the State Council—the highest administrative court in Greece—demanded that the Government should either justify the ban and define the security reasons, or return (the passports to their holders.
