FORECAST TO MIDNIGHT Situation.—An anticyclone centred near East Cape is moving slowly north-east; a strong northerly airstream is moving on to New Zealand from the Tasman Sea ahead of a slow-moving front in the mid-Tasman Sea. Forecast: Canterbury, Marlborough and Nelson.— Northeriies becoming fresh to strong in inland valleys and about the coast; increasing amounts of high, cloud but mainly dry apart from some scattered rain about the Canterbury Alps; rather mild by afternoon. Buller and Westland.—Freshening north-, easterlies; mainly cloudy with rain developing in southern Westland and some scattered showers elsewhere before evening; moderate afternoon temperatures. Outlook: rain in the west; some scattered falls elsewhere in Canterbury and probably Nelson; fair in Marlborough. CHRISTCHURCH READINGS
