Just Walked? About 300 pairs of crutches belonging to the splint department of the Christchurch Hospital are lost or stolen, or stray each year, the monthly meeting of the North Canterbury Hospital Board was told yesterday. Food For Kiwis Live earthworms collected by school children are being flown from all parts of Japan to the Osaka Zoo to feed two live kiwis presented to the zoo last month by the Prime Minister (Sir Keith Holyoake). The Minister of Internal Affairs (Mr Seath) said in Wellington yesterday that according to information he had received the kiwis were attracting wide interest at Osaka. The Japanese were sparing no pains to see that the kiwis were housed under the most favourable conditions. A new pen was to be built for them at a cost of $2500. Wide publicity had been given to the zoo’s difficulties in finding enough earthworms to feed the birds, and there had been a response from many parts of the country. Worms were now being flown free to Osaka by local airlines.—(PA.). Square Inch Of Dirt An American land agent, Mr J. Allison, of Maryville, Tennessee, has been selling deeds to square inch plots of land in all 50 states for $14.50. He spent six years inspecting and buying property until he owned one acre in every state. By “tenancy in common" the owners of the deeds have full use of the entire acre. For the one price he issues a complete set of 50 legitimate deeds, and a map showing the general location of the properties which are all in scenic areas and easily accessible by roads.
