ENGLISH RUGBY

Invitation To N.Z. (N.Z.P.A, Staff Correspondent) LONDON. The New Zealand Rugby Union has been -asked to nominate 10 players for the President’s XV to play four matches during the centenary celebrations of the English Rugby Union next April It is expected that the nominations will be sent to Twickenham next month and that fi- r of the nominated 10 will be chosen in the president’s final squad of 20. A spokesman fot the English union said yesterday that South Africa. France and Australia.had.also been invited to nominate 10 players, making 40 nominees in all. The union would tb® ll select 20 of them, and provided it was possible to get a balanced squad that way, five would be probably chosen from each country. Until recently, too, there were fears that South African players might not be welcome in Britain, but the demonstra-tion-free cricket series including Springbok players has dispelled these worries.
