Burnside Refused

The Bumside Rugby team, which was promoted to senior this season for the Challenge Shield matches, will revert to senior reserve next season. The management committee of the Canterbury Rugby Union last evening approved a recommendation from its grading sub-committee to this effect. The convener of the sub- | committee (Mr B. J. Drake) i said careful consideration -had been given to Burnside’s 'case for admission to senior

ranks, but on its .performances in the Challenge Shield competition it seemed clear that if promoted to senior the team would have little chance of winning any games, and it would not add to the strength of the senior competition. He said the sub-committee trusted that the denial of senior status this time would not discourage the club from making a further application when its playing strength in the higher grades justified it doing so.
