SABAEAN SUMMER JUMPS WELL

( ‘The Press'’ Special Service PALMERSTON NORTH. Th« Grand National Hurdles winner, Sabaean Summer, will make his debut over country in the Tally-Ho Steeplechase at Wanganui on Saturday. His trainer, M. Andrews, brought him over from Bulls yesterday morning to school over steeplechase fences at Awapuni. The horse came through the task well.

The horse went over five jumps with Vice Consul, which will race in the Okehu Hack

Hurdles. Both will be ridden by R. A. Jenkins at Wanganui. Jenkins also has the mount on Purdie in the Durie Hack Handicap and the three-year-old looked most improssive over five furlongs. Sabaean Summer and Vice Consul took the five fences without blemish, although Sabaean Summer was waiting for his rival at the double and as a result he jumped these two fairly slowly. Sabaean Summer takes a little time to warm up and after jumping he accompanied Vice Consul over

a round on the inside trial. They kept together and ran the last five furlongs in Imin Ssec. ’ Vice Consul jumped well and as he will meet a weak field in the hurdle race he should not be disgraced. Working on the inside trial Purdie had the edge on Tree Tops at the end of five furlongs in Imin Ssec, the last three in 38sec. Purdie has made considerable improvement since Carterton. He will not be out of it in the Durie Handicap but the mile of the Wanganui Guineas might be more suitable

as he is just a little lost for early speed in sprints. Tree Tops later schooled well over the brush hurdles. He will resume in the open sprint at Wanganui. Breathalyser looked fresh and fit when galloping five furlongs in Imin 5 4-ssec, the last three in 38 4-ssec. Track conditions Frevented a start for her at oxton. She will race at Hastings with the Gold Trail Stakes as her mission.

On the plough Green Thorn impressed by shading Aku-Hoa over half a mile in 52 2-ssec. the last three in 39 l-ssec.
