Tutorial Proposal

(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, Aug. 24. Where pacticable suitably qualified secondary school teachers should be encouraged to conduct tutorial work at Victoria University, a University Council meeting decided today. The council was considering matters arising from the New Zealand universities conference in May last year. The council believed that university staff should be encouraged to participate in the development of new or updated courses in the schools. It was also decided that the Education Depart-

ment be advised of the university’s willingness to provide opportunities for secondary teachers to take up secondment in appropriate university departments, as was done in the physics department On the question of the Otago Medical School, the council approved a resolution by its medical school committee that no action should be taken on the latest announced plan for expansion of the Otago school till the Medical Council’s education committee and council of the Medical Association of New Zealand had been consulted and the final report of Dr K. A. K. North completed.
