Boxing Amateurs Prepare

Four entries in the light middle-weight title are included in those received for the Canterbury amateur boxing championship; to be held at Lyttelton on Friday evening. The number of entries over all were not heavy, but was higher than last year, the

president of the C.B.A. (Mr E. G. Pocock) said yesterday. He hoped that Canterbury would be able to send six or seven seniors and up to three intermediates to the national championships at Tlmaru early In October. T. Godkin (Tlmaru), a hard puncher, will be the most familiar of the light middleweights to be seen at Lyttelton, where P. Hindmarsh will also fight in this division because there are no welter-weight opponents for him in Canterbury. L. Adams (Linwood Boys’ Club) and P. Fiso (Fidow’s Gym) are the other two entries.

E. Briggs, regarded by some as Canterbury’s most promising boxer now that B. Kendall appears to have retired, will box J. Mackie (Timaru) In the bantam-weight division. S. Tighe (Linwood Boys’ Club), P. Feagalga (Fidow’s gym) and L. Johnston (Ashburton) make up the light-weight division: D. Markham (Linwood Boya’ Club) and D. Lash (Woolaton Working Men's Club) will contest the Anal of the light welter-weight division: and T, Fiseo (Fidow’s gym) and B. Roach (Linwood Boya’ Club) are the only two entrlea in the light-weight class. J. Mitchell R. Leonard (Temuka) and M. Johnston are three of the entrants in the new intermediate claaa.
