Changes Made To MotorCycling Race Rules
Several important changes to national road racing and scrambles competition were made at the annual conference of the New Zealand Auto Cycle Union at Lower Hutt. A remit from the Canterbury Auto Cycle Club successfully proposed that the incoming executive committee make a clear definition of a production machine. The club felt that in view of the interest being shown in production road racing, a national championship in that class would prove highly successful. A set of rules will be drawn up by the committee which will place production machine racing under manufacturers' standard specifications, after a remit to this effect was Introduced by the Ixlon Club. The remit also proposed that where parts were not available, an alternative part may be used provided it Is declared on the entry form and approved before the meeting. A New Zealand sidecar T.T. will be held in future as a result of a remit' by the Hutt Valley club. It felt that an alternative national title event should be run in the North Island, instead of only at Ruapuna Park, where the New Zealand sidecar grand prix has been held for several years. The North Shore Motor-cycle Club’s proposal that where a venue is not available to stage a national quarter-mils grass track championship, special dispensation be granted to allow a speedway track to be used, was successful.
The Union will now recognise and award points for the heavyweight class in its New Zealand road race championships. The Otago club proposed this change, reasoning that it would provide more competitive machinery for considerably less financial outlay to riders than was required in the former classes. In an attempt to encourage motor-cycling at the youngest possible level, riders between 1? and 14 years old will be able to compete in club sporting trials on private land. However, the boys’ parents will be required to sign an indemnity form absolving the c|ub and the union from responsibility for any accidents.
