Gold Cup To Surtees
(N.Z. Press Association) OULTON PARK (England). J. Surtees, of Britain, in a new grand prix car of his own design won the International Gold Cup motor race on Sunday beating the Austrian ace, J. Rindt (Lotus), by 3.4 sec. It was Surtees’s first Formula I win in three years. He took the Gold Cup with best aggregate speed in the two-part race. He won the first part and was second in the other. Rindt, winner of the second part, had to make up 12.8 sec on Surtees, but even though the Surtees’s car was faltering at the end he managed to hold off the challenge. Third over all was J. Oliver (Britain) in a B.R.M. Each heat was run over 20 laps totalling 55.22 miles, making an aggregate of 110.44 miles for the whole event. Over-all results: J.
