Lumber To Race In Australia
"The Press’* Special Service AUCKLAND. Lumber, which holds the New Zealand mile record for two- . year-olds, will not race again here. He will travel by ship - to Sydney from Wellington on - Friday in the care of his ‘ trainer and part-owner, R. B Ogg. of Papatoetoe. Ogg said at Pukekohe on Saturday that plans for Lumber * were uncertain. "The races he won as a two-year-old do not carry any pen- ’• alty in Australia so he might , have to race at minor meetings . for a start," he said. * Lumber will join Terraton and other horses owned by . Ogg s partner, Mr N. J. Taylor, formerly of Auckland. Ogg expects to return home within a few days of Lumber’s arrival in Sydney. He has six horses, including three two-year-olds, in work. . Lumber set his national re- * cord when he won the Thames * Juvenile Stakes at Alexandra * Park in April. He went 2min 7 7sec. Isec better than the previous best. This was done by ’ Noble Lord, also at Alexandra Park. A colt by Lumber Dream from ‘ ’ Hyreto. Lumber has had eight? starts for three wins, four sec-' *, ends and a third. His successes? * Include the New Zealand Juvenile Championship. With a - total of $4610, he was the lead- -. Ing stake-earner among two-- * year-olds trained in the North Island.
