Restoration Of Relations

CAIRO, August 23. The authoritative Cairo newspaper, “Al Ahram," said today that Egypt and Iran had decided to restore diplomatic relations which were broken off 10 years ago. The newspaper, quoted by the Middle East news agency, added that ambassadors would be exchanged in due course. Relations between the two countries were severed in 1989 after President Nasser alleged that Iran was planning to exchange ambassadors with Israel. This, according to Teheran, was based on misunderstandtng and false reports.
