RANDOM REMINDER
OVER DRAUGHT
One of the larger New Zealand companies engaged in the brewing and distribution of beer has been in the news fairly regularly of late, with its purchase of a large number of hotels. The small shareholder might have tended to feel that he was no more than a number in a register had it not been for the wisdom of the annual meeting, which decided that each and every one of the shareholders should take an active part in the great march forward.
With the annual reports,
when they went out, was a statement to shareholders announcing that they were entitled to a carton of the firm’s product, this lot being labelled “Directors’ Brew.” They were further advised of a number of merchants from one of whom they could draw their rations. This, naturally, was received with much gratification, especially by one Christchurch shareholder, of Caledonian extraction, who worked out the retail price of a dozen pint bottles and discovered that the sum just about cov-
ered the value of his own holding in the company. So it was with a spring in his step that he left his car in town, to walk to a nearby agent, one of those on the official list He was duly served with his beer, he put in it in the boot of his car, and went off to work, whistling. It just goes to show what excitement will do to even an orderly sort of person. He had forgotten to ,put his five cents in the meter. And the beer cost him a dollar.
