AIR FARES TO AUST.

Increases Forecast (N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) SYDNEY. August 20. Air fares to and from Australia will rise as a result of the increased air navigation charges and fuel taxes introduced by the Australian Government, the “Australian Financial Review” says today. A 10 per cent increase in air navigation charges was announced in the Budget on Tuesday night, and was the tenth in 10 years. Landing fees at Sydney's Kingsford Smith Airport for a Boeing 707 or a Douglas DCS will rise from $B9B to $990 from January 1, and the cost of landing a Boeing 747 jumbo jet will be $2300. The “Financial Review” says that Australia’s navigation charges are now 3i times the world average.
