(N.Z. Press Association)

WELLINGTON, Aug. 18.

The Cabinet has approved from April 1 next year an increase in police staffing which will provide one policeman to every 860 people, the Minister of Police (Mr Thomson) said today. “The present ratio is one policeman to 890 and it is expected that recruit and cadet

wings yet to graduate will provide the numbers to ensure this figure is achieved before March 31,” Mr Thomson said.
