Squash coaching body established
One of the moot important developments in Canterbury squash rackets this season has been the establishment of a district amateur coaching body. Sponsored by Rothman’s Sports Foundation, the body comprises 22 coaches, and has already held two successful coaching clinics.
Later in the year examinations will be held and it is hoped to have properly accredited coaches at junior, intermediate and senior levels in the near future. This move in Canterbury owes much to the enthusiasm of the district coordinator, J. H. N. Pine, who has been principally responsible for the two schools held so far and who will be arranging the examinations later.
It is unfortunate that at a time when interest in coaching is growing, the extremely popular professional, Dardir, has decided to retire from the position of national eoach. Dardir might still be available on a private basis at weekends to advise coaches. He will be most missed by improving top junior players. Meanwhile, the onus rests heavily on the district coaches to provide the necessary instruction and encouragement at club level.
