Schools Art Competition

Paul Letts, a pupil of St Andrew’s College, won the $2O first prize in the secondary schools art competition run in conjunction with the annual meeting of the National Council of Churches Youth Committee in Christchurch at the week-end. The result were announced at the meeting. Second prize of $lO went to Louise Chestney, of Avonside Girls’ High, and third prize of $5 to Joanne Drayton, of Heaton Street Intermediate.

The judge (Mr B. D. Muir), the director of the Robert McDougall Art Gallery, said it was difficult to outline in symbolic form the theme of the competition—“ Peace.” He commended the three winners for their imaginaion, saying that each showed a distinctive approach.
