Refuse Dump Warning
Some prosecutions would be necessary to deter persons who dumped rubbish indiscriminately, but there should not be automatic prosecution without an offender being given the opportunity to explain the circumstances, the by-laws committee reported to the City Council on Monday evening. The .committee referred to a recent case where considerable expense had been involved in removing car bodies and other refuse dumped along the frontage M the controlled tip in Bexley Road. The Chief City Health Inspector (Mr A, P. Millthorpe) had reported on rubbish dumping and had said that in several cases offenders had been interviewed and as a result their rubbish had been removed promptly and they had written apologetic letters. The council agreed with the committee that the inspector report to it for a decision on any case that appeared to warrant prosecution.
