Fencing Of Bush
Fencing of Dry Bush had been the main project during the year, the president of the Summit Road Scenic Society (Mr W. D. Douglas) told the society's annual meeting. The ares of an acre and a half had now been fenced, and an appreciable amount of planting had been done, most of the native trees and shrubs being provided by the Reserves Department of the Christchurch City Council, Mr Douglas reported.
Some trees and shrubs had been collected from other areas and replanted, and kowhai seedlings were making progress in the absence of stock, although rabbits were causing some damage. With only a small membership, the receipts from subscribers each year brought in only a limited income and the cost of fencing Dry Bush had reduced the society’s finances considerably this year, he said.
