AUTHORITY GRANTED

Levy Will Be Repaid (N.Z. Press Association} NELSON, August 17. Government authority had been granted for the Apple and Pear Board to repay the cool store retention levy imposed on growers in 1967. the president of the Fruitgrowers’ Federation (Mr P. K. McCliskie) said today. Mr McCliskie urged Nelson growers attending their annual conference to leave the funds with the board voluntarily. He said the board was going to need every cent it could get to finance its capital programme, and this year's trading results were not going to help. The directors of the Fruitgrowers’ Federation had recommended to the Government that the retention levy should be paid out only on the application of the grower, but that if left with the board the funds should be paid interest at 6 per cent, instead of 5 per cent.
