Control Sought On Wholesale Beer
(New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, August 17. Price control on wholesale beer has been sought in one of two developments stemming from the abandoned beer inquiry.
While the Government is considering the introduction of price control on wholesale beer, sought by the Combined State Services Organisation after the imposition of control on certain retail lines, the president of the Price Tribunal (Mr S. T. Barnett) is “meditating” on whether or not to allow the C.S.S.O. and the Federation of Labour to be parties to the Hotel Association's hearing for a variation in already price controlled lines. It is likely to be some time, however, before a decision is made. : Mr Barnett said late this morning that he had just reeeived the C.S.S.O.’s letter apprising him of the comments, Of the Prime Minister (Sir Keith Holyoake) that Hie forthcoming hearing was, m , effect, a continuation of the abandoned inquiry. 'The comment was apparently made last week, when a delegation from the C.S.S.O. met'Sir Keith Holyoake. Mr Barnett said no date
had been set for the Hotel Association hearing.
“The letter has only just come. 1 am meditating on it at this very moment 1 will take time to do so, and will write an opinion when the form of the hearing has taken shape,” he said.
