HOMOSEXUAL LAW
Proposal For Change (N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, Aug. 16. Homosexuals lived with the threat of blackmail under the present law, the Wellington Methodist Synod was told this week-end. This threat could be reduced if legal restrictions were ended, the Rev. C. D. Clark told the synod. He described the position as “anomalous,” with male homosexuals being liable to punishment by law if caught, even if the act was in private, while female homosexuals were allowed complete freedom. The synod decided to ask the church’s annual conference to urge the Government to amend the Crimes Act, 1961, to provide that sections 141 and 142 should no longer apply to consenting adult males who performed homosexual acts in private.
