Arthur’s Pass Inquiry Two general inquiries about the availability of land in the Arthur’s Pass area for a hotel and tavern site were received by the Arthur’s Pass National Park Board at its meeting during the week-end. No specific sites were mentioned and the board would not be able to help with the inquiries until the Malvern County Council brought down its district scheme for the area, probably later this year, said Mr G. Mollett, the chairman of the board. However, the board would be happy to see further accommodation provided in the Arthur’s Pass area in view of the increasing tourist traffic, he said.

The agents for the hotel and tavern interests, who were not identified, did not name any particular site and this could be on board land, ordinary Crown land, Crown-leased land or freehold land. Mr Mollett said the board would not be able to sell land for a site but could lease it
