Vegetable And Fruit Prices
More cooking vegetables were cheaper, and all vegetables and fruit were plentiful at the Christchurch produce markets yesterday. Cases of spinach sold for up to $1.20, 30 cents less. Cases of sprouts and beetroot and bunches of white turnips dropped 20 cents, and sold for up to $3.60, and 60 cents respectively. Cabbages and parsnips cost 30 cents a case more and fetched up to $l.lO and 80 cents. Carrots were 10 cents dearer, selling at up to 80 cents a case. Spring onions sold at 80 cents a dozen bunches, a drop of 20 cents. Tomatoes cost 61 cents per lb and were 4 cents cheaper. Lettuces sold for up to $1.70 a case, an increase of 50 cents. Cases of tamarillos rose 40 cents in price and cost $4. Cases of Chinese gooseberries were $1 dearer, also selling For up to $4. The official price range supplied by the Christchurch Fruit and Vegetable Wholesalers’ Association was:— Silver Beet.—Boc to $l.lO a case. Beetroot.—6oc a case. Pumpkins.—4c to 5c per lb. Cabbages.—3oc to $l.lO a case. Carrots.—soc to 80c a case. Cauliflowers.—sl,2o to $1.70 a case. Onions.—To $4 a bag. Parsnips.—4oc to 80c a case. Sprouts.—sl.Bo to $3 a case. Swedes.—To $1.30 a bag. White Turnips,—6oc a dozen bunches. Potatoes.—To 75c a sugar bag. Kumeras.—s3.so a case. Spring Onions.—To 80c a dozen bunches. Radishes.—To 70c a dozen bunches. Parsley.—l2c a bunch. Lettuces. —To $1.70 a case. Leeks.—To $1.40 a case. Utah Celery.—To $3.05 a case. Spinach.—To $1.20 a case. Cucumbers.—s2.lo a case. Rhubarb.—To $2.40 a dozen | bunches. Tomatoes.—To 61c per lb. Grapefruit.—s 3 to $4 case. Passionfruit.—To $2.50 a case. Tamarillos.—sl.Bo to $4 a case. Chinese Gooseberries.—s2.so to $4 a case.
